What Will Riley Do?

A better title for this post might be: “What CAN Riley Do?”. With the Kevin Garnett trade to the Boston Celtics becoming official this morning, the NBA’s ‘Least’ern conference just got a lot more imposing. [Read more →]

Rudy Fernandez Shuns Blazers

Found it interesting that Rudy Fernandez has decided to stay in Europe rather then play with Greg Oden, for now anyway.  From ulebcup.com:

Rudy Fernandez will remain with his boyhood club. DKV Joventut Badalona, for the foreseeable future after the talented swingman signed a contract extension on Friday. (ed-Fri. 7/27/07)  More

Why do I care? Because it shows that some of the Euro leagues, especially in Spain, Greece, Italy, and Russia have gained enough legitimacy and even more importantly, revenue to be able to retain some of the high profile international prospects who don’t necessarily see the NBA as the only worthy career path for themselves. A New Ticket in Boston

The Associated Press is reporting that the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics have agreed in principle to a trade that will send Kevin Garnett to Boston in exchange for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, and Theo Ratliff. It’s also being reported that the Celtics would likely be giving up at least one draft pick. [Read more →]

Da Thieves

On Saturday July 28th, sometime in the evening, New York Knick Center Eddy Curry , along with his wife and an unnamed employee, were robbed at gun-point in an apparent robbery in Curry’s 6.2 Million suburban home. According to Burr Ridge Mayor Garry Grasso, “The door may have been unlocked or the garage was open, but there’s no indication they forced their way in.” The masked men stole some cash and jewelry, but luckily, no one was harmed according to law enforcement officials. Funny, about three weeks ago, Miami Heat Small Forward Antoine Walker suffered the same fate in his River North Neighborhood home, not too far away from Curry’s home. Police believe the two incidents may be connected and that the same perpetrators might be responsible, seeing as how the two crimes were very similar; two star athletes, stolen cash, stolen jewelry, whilst the victims were home.  [Read more →]

KG Headed to Beantown?

Oh boy. This is a story that refuses to die. And according to multiple sources (and by sources, I mean all over the freaking internet) it looks like Kevin Garnett to Boston is now more likely to happen then ever before.

“They” are saying that the Boston Celtics would be giving up Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, and Theo Ratlif, along with draft picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for The Big Ticket.  I reccomend visiting DraftExpress.com for more rumors and innuendo about this situation. They seem to have some more details right now then anyone else, but then again, everything being reported now sounds a whole lot like the stuff going around right before the draft. And both then and now, it appears that Al Jefferson is the key piece here for the Timberwolves.

We’ll have more as this story breaks open. Or, just like it did in June, this whole thing could fall apart.

Glove go Smush!

When I heard we signed Smush Parker, my immediate thoughts weren’t anything above lukewarm. This guy is not the point man that’s going to get us back to the finals. What he is though is a decent replacement for Gary Payton. We all love the Glove and he did give us some plays in the clutch in the playoffs. He also got burnt…….. a lot. Granted that when we got him it was for backup purposes only but with J-Will being held together by band-aids he got a little more responsibility than he expected (sound familiar Zo?).  So with the addition of Smush, so long GP, you’ve done my city a service.

His Gloveness

Looking forward, I think the core of Williams/Parker/Quinn will be solid for us. J-Will has the whole summer to get back to his former self and from what I remember from last season’s embarrasment thanks to the Bulls, (did anyone else see poor Riles sweating through his pressed dress shirt?) I think this offseason will give us the old Riley. The one players accused of shortening their careers with his tough practices. In my opinion, Chris Quinn is pretty good. He’s not near where I would like him to be but for a rook last season, he showed a lot of promise ( this was the guy who helped us come back from being down like 20 and almost pulling off an ill upset). So Smush coming in for GP, I think we’ll be ok with those three at the point. [Read more →]

The OFF Season Smush?

So the point guard seach ends with a yawn.  The Heat said it wanted to make a ”big splash” in the offseason, instead, we have a Smush. Its being reported by the Miami Herald that Smush Parker has agreed to a two year deal with the Heat, bringing Miami’s search for point guard to a close. I would be surprised if he’s being brought here as a starter. This seems more like Riley deciding that Jason Williams is the starting point guard for the immidiate future and a vote of no confidence in Chris Quinn.

Smush Parker - NBA.com

I have a feeling that this move is going to be met with mostly apathy from Heat fans. Nobody would argue that this is a blockbuster move and certainly not the kind of pickup that some Heat fans were hoping for when Mickey Arison informed Pat Riley that he would be willing to go into the Luxury Tax zone for an impact player. Trade Maker

HERE is a link to realgm.com’s “trade checker”. Its really more fun and more addicting then is probably healthy. (Especially if you have a job. You’ll be messing with this thing all day.)

Wade Calls for Unity

D-Wade says: “Players and Referees, Unite!”. Not his exact words but as Fred Mitchell of chicagosports.com reports, Flash doesn’t seem to be too worried about the Tim Donaghy scandal. Click here for the article. (Brief… article.)
